Two hundred years ago, a blood feud erupted between two great nations(The Dark War): Valta and Pteleum. For two hundred years they fought at a stalemate, with neither side able to gain a significant advantage over the other. However, twenty five years ago, the war came to a sudden end; Valta and her allies swiftly defeated the Pteleumites.

Tweny five years ago, a darkness spread across the land centered on Pteleum. This darkness was not in the sky, but in the ground. All plant life began to wilt and turn gray, and this slowly spread throughout the lands. Eating anything with even the smallest amount of this “blight” infecting it is sure death sentence. Most places close to Pteleum never had a chance, the news of the blight was barely faster than the blight itself.

You’ve heard stories of your ancestral homes from your parents or mentors, but all you’ve ever known is the ever-westward path your people have been travelling, trying to escape the blight.

You walk up the cliff-side path, and can’t help but look down. Several thousand feet down, and at least a mile away, you see the green grass in the distance mixing with the gray death as it approaches; slowly but surely, the blight has pushed your people into a corner. That was a over a month ago.

One month ago to the day, your parents and mentors went into the Sortobas, a large unexplored forested region just north of you atop this cliff. Between your people and this forest is an ancient looking stone wall…and a large Goliath settlement. They don’t allow your people to join them, but permit you to setup tents nearby. They share what food they have, and seem to tolerate your presence, but many are mistrusting of you; there is a 50 foot wide, 5 foot deep trench separating the two factions. One month ago to the day, your parents and mentors went into the Sortobas, they haven’t been heard from since.
